Dine to donate ideas, and how to make the giving last all year
Restaurant fundraiser nights are fun, social and easy to say yes to. Here's how to run a good one, and how to keep that support going after the night is over.
How dine-to-donate works
A restaurant agrees to give a share of sales from a set window, often one evening, to your organization. Supporters mention your group, show a flyer or use a code when they order. Afterward the restaurant tallies qualifying sales and sends a donation.
Dine to donate ideas that boost turnout
- Pick a night people already eat out. Weeknights near the end of the month or right after a game or concert tend to be easy.
- Choose a local favorite. A family-owned spot that people love gets more word of mouth than a generic chain.
- Make it an event. Invite a coach, teacher or beneficiary to stop by and say thanks.
- Remove the friction. If the restaurant needs a flyer or code, post it everywhere and ask staff to accept a phone screenshot.
- Include take-out. Not everyone can dine in; ask whether pickup orders count.
- Thank the restaurant publicly. Tag them, post photos and encourage people to come back. It makes the next night easier to book.
The catch: it ends at closing time
A dine-to-donate night is one evening. You have to book the next restaurant, design the next flyer and remind everyone again. Supporters who couldn't make it that night can't help at all.
Turn one night into every day
With NectarPay Community Share, participating local businesses, including restaurants, cafes and shops, accept the NectarPay terminal. Your supporters use a free wallet branded for your nonprofit, and 8% of each purchase goes back to your cause any day they shop there, not just on fundraiser night. Supporters earn POP (Proof of Participation) points along the way; points recognize participation and have no cash value.
Think of it as a dine-to-donate night that never ends, and that also covers the hair salon, the hardware store and the coffee shop down the street.
