Passive fundraising ideas that keep giving after the event ends

What if your supporters could help your cause every time they bought coffee, lunch or groceries in town, without you asking them for another donation? Watch the short video, then let us show you how NectarPay Community Share works.

Why passive fundraising matters now

Most nonprofits lean on the same small group of generous people, over and over: the gala, the spring appeal, the year-end letter, the emergency ask. Those supporters care, but every new request costs a little goodwill. That's donor fatigue, and it's why so many leaders are searching for passive fundraising ideas.

Passive fundraising flips the model. Instead of asking people to set aside extra money, you give them a way to support you with money they were already going to spend. No ticket to sell, no catalog to push, no sign-up sheet to chase.

How NectarPay Community Share works

  1. Local businesses take part. Shops, restaurants and service businesses in your area accept payments on the NectarPay terminal.
  2. Your supporters get a free wallet with your name on it. The wallet is branded for your nonprofit, so every purchase is a reminder of who they're helping.
  3. 8% of each purchase goes back to your nonprofit. When a supporter pays with the wallet at a participating business, 8% of that purchase is directed to your cause.
  4. Supporters earn POP points. POP (Proof of Participation) points recognize the people who show up for your cause. They have no cash value; they're a way to say "you were part of this."

Passive fundraising ideas, side by side

Everyday local spending

Community Share. Supporters keep shopping at local businesses and 8% of each purchase goes to your cause. Works all year, not just on one night.

Round-up giving

Supporters round card purchases up to the next dollar and donate the change. Simple, but it still draws on the supporter's own money. Read more.

Dine-to-donate nights

A restaurant shares part of one evening's sales. Fun and social, but it's a one-off event you have to promote each time. Read more.

Shop-to-give portals and gift cards

Online shopping portals and gift card programs share a small percentage, often with national retailers rather than your neighbors. See more ideas.

What makes a passive fundraising idea actually work

It asks for nothing extra

The best passive ideas ride on habits people already have. If a supporter has to remember a code, visit a special site or spend more than usual, participation drops.

It keeps your name in front of people

A program supporters forget about raises little. A wallet branded for your nonprofit puts your cause in their hand at checkout.

It's good for the whole community

When support flows through local businesses, the shop owner, the supporter and the nonprofit all have a reason to keep it going. That's very different from a fundraiser that only takes from your list.

It's honest about what to expect

Passive income for a cause grows with participation. Anyone who promises a guaranteed dollar figure is guessing. On the call we'll show you how it works, and you decide whether it's a fit.

Questions nonprofit leaders ask

What is passive fundraising?

Passive fundraising is support that comes in while people go about their normal lives, such as shopping, eating out or paying for everyday things, instead of being asked to write a separate check. Supporters keep doing what they already do, and a share of that activity goes to the cause.

How does NectarPay Community Share work?

Participating local businesses accept payments on the NectarPay terminal. Your supporters use a free wallet branded for your nonprofit. When a supporter pays at a participating business, 8% of that purchase goes back to your nonprofit, and the supporter earns POP (Proof of Participation) points.

Does it cost our nonprofit anything?

The supporter wallet is free for your supporters. On the 15-minute call we will show you exactly how it works on the nonprofit side so you can decide whether it fits.

Are POP points worth money?

No. POP points recognize participation. They are not cash, have no cash value and are not an investment.

How much will our organization raise?

It depends on how many supporters use the wallet and how much they spend at participating businesses. We do not promise or estimate dollar amounts.
